Assessment of serum testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone levels in female patients with acne vulgaris

Introduction: Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit with differential pathogenesis. To elucidate roles hormones in acne pathogenesis, we conducted study to evaluate serum testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone levels women vulgaris. Methods: We cross-sectional descriptive study, 175 vulgaris were examined; their progesterone, testosterone analyzed by chemiluminescence technique compared healthy control group. Results: Increased hormone accounted for 29.7%, hyperandrogenism 16.0% cases. found significant differences (mean value, 55.67±25.56 versus 38.37±10.16 ng/dL, p<0.05) respectively, group group. However, estradiol level (323.15±93.31 pmol/L) was lower than (370.94±58.88 pmol/L), p-value under 0.05. No statistically (0.60±0.38 0.50±0.15 ng/mL, p>0.05) levels. Moreover, did not find relationship between severity Conclusion: This showed that female patients may have high low those controls. alterations had no correlation severity.
